Proposed WCID Boundary Extension: What It Means for Existing WCID Members
WCID is supporting a resident-led proposal to include Doordekraal West as Sector 6 of the Welgemoed CID. Part of Doordekraal already falls within WCID’s boundaries. The proposal would extend the existing boundary to include a further 186 properties in the adjoining area, bringing them under WCID’s established public safety, cleaning, maintenance, greening and social development services.
The proposed extension offers both financial and public safety benefits to existing WCID members, without additional costs or any reduction in current services.
Financial Benefits
Adding 186 properties would allow WCID to spread shared operational costs across a larger area. Based on the proposed budget, this could reduce the projected annual increase for existing WCID members from 6% to a possible 5.6%. The proposed budget will be presented at the AGM.
Public Safety Benefits
Doordekraal West has experienced an increase in criminal activity but currently falls outside WCID’s operational boundaries. WCID’s improved public safety measures have made Welgemoed a more difficult target for criminals, who instead seek opportunities in neighbouring areas with less security coverage. Extending the boundary would allow WCID’s Public Safety Officers to patrol Doordekraal West, improving security coverage and helping to address criminal activity in the area before it affects Welgemoed.
The Doordekraal West Steering Committee has already funded additional CCTV cameras linked to WCID’s 24-hour Security Control Room, at no cost to existing WCID residents. This cooperation has already assisted in the apprehension of a suspect following an attempted robbery in Infantry Road.
What Happens Next?
WCID members will be asked to vote on supporting the proposed boundary extension at the AGM on 10 November 2026.
This is the first stage of the process. If supported, the Doordekraal West Steering Committee will then begin its own information-sharing and public participation process, allowing property owners to review the proposed services, budget and financial implications. The extension will ultimately remain subject to the required property owner support and City of Cape Town approval.
Questions or Concerns?
Members are encouraged to email admin@welgemoedcid.co.za with any questions or concerns. WCID will compile responses into a Q&A update ahead of the AGM to help members make an informed decision.
