- Public Safety
Working Together on Safety
WCID attended a quarterly SAPS stakeholder meeting during November, together with neighboring CIDs, private security providers, and City representatives. This ongoing coordination supports shared intelligence, situational awareness, and alignment on crime prevention and response.
Safety in Focus
No house break-ins or attempted break-ins were recorded during the month. Four non-serious incidents were logged. A robbery in Kommissaris Street involved two youngsters who were unharmed; the suspect vehicle has been flagged on the WCID LPR system. An ATM-related incident was also reported at the Welgemoed Shopping Centre.
Keeping Welgemoed Secure
Incidents were monitored through the WCID control room, with LPR alerts and patrol responses activated where required. Engagement with SAPS and security partners will continue ahead of the festive season to refine patrol focus and response readiness.
- Cleaning, Greening & Environmental Care
Caring for Welgemoed’s Green Spaces
WCID works with contracted MES teams responsible for maintaining green areas across the CID, ensuring public spaces are cared for responsibly and consistently. WCID is finalising resident engagement for the upcoming upgrade to Goewerneur Park. Residents are encouraged to look out for the survey and share their input to help shape a space that is well used and enjoyed by the community.
In Our Parks and Streets
Seasonal maintenance continued during November and included tree trimming near drainage and safety infrastructure, targeted herbicide spraying, and removal of Patterson’s curse. WCID also supported eradication efforts within the Tygerberg Nature Reserve, building on an established working relationship.
- Municipal & Infrastructure Coordination
Working with the City of Cape Town
WCID continues to engage City departments through the Municipal C3 system, tracking reported issues and following up where required. Several municipal issues were logged during November, with streetlights remaining on during daylight hours accounting for most reports.
- A Caring Community
Community in Action
Welgemoed continues to demonstrate a strong sense of community. Recent events included the Welgemoed Musiek Fees, with upcoming highlights such as Carols by Candlelight on 4 December at Welgemoed NG Kerk. Details are available on the Welgemoed CID website. Golfers can also look forward to the Huis Jabes Golf Day on 22 January. One of Welgemoed CID’s partner organisations continue to do meaningful work, including supporting women affected by domestic violence.
Shaping What Comes Next
Residents are encouraged to participate in upcoming surveys linked to planned upgrades. The more feedback received, the better shared spaces can be designed to reflect the needs and wishes of the community.
