The Welgemoed City Improvement District (WCID) remains committed to keeping our suburb safe, clean, and well-managed through continuous monitoring, strong partnerships, and proactive action. Each month, our teams respond to incidents, support residents, and work with the City of Cape Town to resolve service needs across Welgemoed. Residents wanting to join the Welgemoed CID Security Sub Committee should contact CID Manager for further information.

Welgemoed in Focus:

In October, Welgemoed recorded one attempted housebreaking and three minor incidents. Patrol teams engaged 114 times with waste pickers and non-residents, particularly on refuse days when activity increases. Residents are urged to stay alert and report suspicious vehicles, especially bakkies offering unsolicited refuse removal or wood deliveries, as these operators can enable quick opportunistic incidents. Thanks to strong resident vigilance, only two open gate/garage incidents were logged.

The Welgemoed CID also coordinated two emergency medical responses and attended to several municipal issues, including road repairs, water outages, and sewer blockages.

WCID Seasonal Maintenance:

Our teams continued with essential seasonal work to keep Welgemoed’s public areas safe and well maintained. This included trimming sidewalks and pathways to improve visibility for walkers, runners, and road users; manually removing invasive Patterson’s Curse in parks and natural areas; and cutting back long grass on islands and public spaces. During autumn and winter, teams also clear leaves around storm-water drains to prevent blockages and reduce localised flooding.

Welgemoed CID Safety Toolkit:

As we move into the festive season, please help us keep Welgemoed secure by doing these quick checks:

✔️ Test your alarm (at least once a month)

✔️ Check wireless device batteries (beams, sensors, keypads)

✔️ Confirm your armed response service is active and functioning

✔️ Test outside lighting & movement sensors

✔️ Check boundary walls, fences & gate motors

✔️ Secure or restrict access to outside power points

✔️ Update keyholder information with WCID Control Room & your armed response provider

✔️ Ensure someone has access to your property while you’re away

✔️ Know your neighbours, awareness is the strongest first line of defense
