Welgemoed CID – Security Notice April

Published on: Apr 2, 2026

Welgemoed CID would like to inform residents to security related observations involving small, organised groups operating in Cape Town’s Northern Suburbs . These individuals have been doing various levels of reconnaissance, by ringing doorbells at odd times, presenting themselves as service providers, as well as in two instances tailing a delivery motorcycle and taking the bike and its contents. Thankfully no one has been harmed in these instances.

As mentioned in our March report Here, Welgemoed is experiencing very few house break-ins when compared with our 2025 baseline. The new patterns being observed do however need to be brought to your attention to ensure residents remain alert.

Recent and verified incidents suggest that individuals are arriving at residents’ homes by vehicle and presenting themselves as legitimate service providers when approaching residents. While this may appear routine, there have been instances where access was granted, and it later became clear that the individuals were assessing the security measures on the property.

Residents are strongly advised to:

  • Verify any service providers directly with your neighbours before allowing access to your property
  • Keep gates and access points secured
  • Remain cautious of unexpected visits
  • Take a note of the vehicle’s registration number, to be logged on our LPR system so WCID will be notified of future re-entry into Welgemoed
  • Report any suspicious behaviour immediately to the Welgemoed CID Control Room by calling 086 1212 315

Welgemoed CID has adjusted our patrol routes to be in certain areas more often as well as incorporating additional camera monitoring in adjacent sectors.  Welgemoed CID’s operational focus remains sustaining visible patrols, active surveillance monitoring, and coordinated response to reported incidents.
