Doordekraal West: Proposed Inclusion in Welgemoed CID

Share >>

Do you live west of Jip de Jager, in Doordekraal West?

A group of Doordekraal West residents has initiated a proposal to join the Welgemoed City Improvement District (WCID) as Sector 6.

The initiative follows growing concerns about crime in the area and to strengthen public safety through WCID’s existing patrols, CCTV monitoring and 24-hour Security Control Room. It would also extend WCID’s cleaning, maintenance, greening and social development services to the area. WCID supports exploring the proposal, recognising the benefits of closer cooperation between neighbouring communities.

No decision has been made. The proposal must follow the City’s formal approval process, including public participation, where residents can learn more about the proposed services, costs and implications, ask questions and provide input. Doordekraal West residents are encouraged to stay informed and have their say.

 Background to the Proposal

A steering committee of six Doordekraal West residents was established in late 2025 to explore the proposed inclusion, with assistance from Welgemoed CID. One of the main considerations is improving public safety through access to WCID’s existing security services, including its 24-hour Security Control Room at the Welgemoed Forum.

Cooperation between the two communities is already underway. CCTV cameras sponsored by a the Door de Kraal West steering committee have been installed at the entrances to Artillery and Jorgensens Avenues and connected to the WCID Control Room. These cameras have already assisted in the apprehension of a suspect following an attempted robbery in Infantry Road.

The proposed inclusion must follow the City of Cape Town’s formal CID process, including public participation. No decision on inclusion has been made, and residents will have opportunities to understand the proposal and its implications before the process is concluded. The Steering Committee will continue to share updates as the process progresses.

We encourage all Doordekraal West residents to stay informed and take part in shaping the future of their neighbourhood.
