Community Support When It Matters Most – Welgemoed is more than a suburb, it is a community and in moments of crisis, that spirit becomes most visible.

Welgemoed CID maintains sector-specific SOS WhatsApp groups to assist residents who require urgent support. The Welgemoed CID Operations Centre is active on each group, providing coordination and communication, while nearby residents are often first on scene, offering immediate assistance and reassurance while professional responders are on their way.

On behalf of residents who have needed help, we extend our sincere thanks to those who have stepped forward, and to those who will answer the call in future. Over time, neighbours have responded to falls, medical emergencies, house break-ins, and even cardiac events. In each instance, residents acted calmly, quickly, and with care.

Even without formal medical training, simply being present, offering reassurance, helping contact family members, or ensuring emergency services can access the property swiftly, all make a meaningful difference. Those who have experienced these stressful moments have expressed deep appreciation for the steady presence and practical help of fellow residents.

SOS WhatsApp Groups

Two SOS WhatsApp groups are currently in operation:

• SOS – East: Residents below Jip de Jager (Sectors 4 & 5)
• SOS – West: Residents above Jip de Jager (Sectors 1, 2 & 3)

These groups are intended exclusively for residents requiring immediate medical or security assistance. Residents who are not yet part of their sector group are encouraged to contact the WCID Operations Manager Arndt Mittendorf by sending a WhatsApp to – zero 84 445 5666 to be added to your respective group

How the SOS Groups Work

• Groups are sector-specific due to the large number of people on the groups.
• They are strictly for urgent situations requiring immediate attention.
• Communication should be clear, factual, and focused on the emergency.
• Once professional emergency services are contacted and assistance is in place, further discussion should move off the group to keep the channel clear.
