Cape Town residents have an opportunity to spend some time outdoors this Heritage Day weekend, with the City of Cape Town offering free entry to selected nature reserves from Thursday, 24 September to Sunday, 27 September 2026. For Welgemoed residents, that includes Tygerberg Nature Reserve, an important natural area right on our doorstep and one that WCID continues to support through practical maintenance initiatives.

Last Thursday, a 12-person Welgemoed CID team worked inside the reserve, clearing weeds along the perimeter fence towards Trichardt Street. The team will return this week to continue the work as part of WCID’s ongoing support for the reserve and its boundary areas.

Over the Heritage Day weekend, visitors can enjoy walking and hiking trails, spring flowers and birdlife, while taking in some of the best views across Cape Town. Free entry also applies to Blaauwberg, Helderberg and Table Bay nature reserves. This is excellent opportunity to explore some of the Cape’s natural heritage which we have so close to home.
