Welgemoed CID teams continue to maintain proactive oversight and coordination across Welgemoed. Throughout the month, WCID maintained active safety and operational oversight. Overall incident volumes reduced due to the holiday period. House Break-ins (2):
14 December – Kanna Avenue, Sector 4:
A housebreaking occurred involving two individuals. Entry was gained via a fence from the Door de kraal Dam side, with access to the house gained by breaking a burglar bar. A laptop contained in a bag was stolen.
20 December (reported 28 December) – Dias Street, Sector 3:
Entry into the property was gained via the roof. The alarm system was disabled, and a television was stolen.
Non -Serious Theft:
Four incidents involving the removal of mounted items outside properties were recorded. Items stolen included a camera mounted above a garage, a buzzer bell, an intercom, and a water tap. All incidents were logged, and incorporated into operational review and response planning.
Keeping Welgemoed Secure
Public safety in Welgemoed is actively managed through the Welgemoed CID Control Room, providing continuous monitoring and coordination. Patrols maintained visibility across the CID during the month and managed the increased movement of waste pickers and other non-residents through the CID area.
- Cleaning, Greening & Environmental Care
Caring for Welgemoed’s Green Spaces
MES teams contracted by WCID continued routine maintenance of green areas across the CID, ensuring public spaces remained well cared for throughout the month. A new greening project has also commenced to reimagine Goewerneur Park as a more welcoming and functional space, with particular attention given to areas for teenagers and young adults.

In Our Parks and Streets
During December, teams completed the following:
- Removed 817 Port Jackson saplings from the Kommissaris embankment
- Cleared poplar tree shoots at Imhoff Park
- Removed 10.9 tons of vegetation cuttings
- Cleared 345 kg of litter
- Cleared a further 1,350 Kg alien hacking material
- Continued clearing storm water drains to reduce blockages during rain
- Working with the City
With many residents away, issues logged with the City of Cape Town reduced by approximately half. Welgemoed CID continued to track and coordinate reported matters as required.
- Community in Action
Welgemoed hosted another well-supported Carols by Candlelight at Welgemoed NG Kerk, attended by over 350 people. A total of R6,250 was received via cash and SnapScan donations. Residents also donated stationery, which will be distributed to deserving scholars in communities near Welgemoed.
