Saturday’s first Young Entrepreneurs Parkie Markie at Sluysken Vliegtuigpark brought together young stallholders, supportive families and enthusiastic residents for a morning that exceeded all expectations. What began as a simple idea from Welgemoed resident and parent, Edwin Theron, quickly became a wonderful example of community spirit in action.

A Wonderful First Parkie Markie!
Our first Young Entrepreneurs Parkie Markie at Sluysken Vliegtuigpark exceeded all expectations. What started as a simple idea to give local children an opportunity to experience entrepreneurship turned into a wonderful community morning filled with energy, learning, laughter and connection.
The young entrepreneurs sold everything from cupcakes, ice creams, sweets , honey and cookies to toys, books, jewellery and clivias. Along the way they practised maths, negotiated with customers, learned a few lessons about pricing and marketing, and discovered the excitement of earning money through their own effort. Several parents shared how much their children enjoyed the experience, with many already asking when the next market will be!
A huge thank you to everyone who supported the event. We were blown away by the turnout from the community and by the enthusiasm with which residents supported the children. Thank you to every parent, volunteer, organiser and visitor who contributed to making the morning such a success. The beautiful weather certainly helped, but it was the community spirit that made the event special.
Most importantly, we saw children grow in confidence, take pride in their creations, and experience firsthand what it means to turn an idea into something others value. That is exactly what the Parkie Markie is all about.
Given how much the kids enjoyed it and the incredible support, this might become a regular occurrence with the next one planned for Sept or October. We look forward to welcoming back familiar faces, meeting some new young entrepreneurs, and building on the momentum of this fantastic first event. Details will be shared once a date has been finalised.
