Sewer Infrastructure Upgrades Underway in Welgemoed Sectors 1 & 2
The City of Cape Town’s Water and Sanitation Department has commenced two sewer infrastructure replacement projects in parts of Welgemoed CID Sectors 1 and 2. These upgrades form part of the City’s ongoing investment in maintaining critical underground infrastructure to ensure reliable sanitation services and reduce future maintenance disruptions. The infrastructure upgrades are expected to continue until approximately September to November 2026, depending on construction progress and site conditions.
Project Site 1 – Van der Walt Street (Water Reservoir Area) – Contractor: Martin East

This project will manage sewer pipe replacement north of Imhoff Park, including sections of:
- Hofmeyr Street
- Trichardt Street
- Chavonne Street
- Plettenberg Street
- Surrounding streets in the northern section of the sector
