The City of Cape Town’s Catchment, Stormwater & River Management Branch – Water & Sanitation (CSRM) has announced the suspension of Phase 1 upgrades to Fynbos Dam in Majik Forest. Persistent rainfall has led to saturated ground conditions and restricted site access, making it impossible for construction vehicles to safely navigate access routes or work with waterlogged materials.
Key Details:
- Effective date of suspension: 9 August 2025
- Expected resumption: October 2025, after the rainy season
- Reason: Safety and practicality concern due to saturated materials and site inaccessibility
Access During Suspension
- Spillway area: Access to and around the spillway will remain strictly prohibited.
- Majik Forest trails: Trail routes and walkways remain open for public use.
- Construction zone: Access in and around the construction area and all demarcated zones at Fynbos Dam is restricted. These areas are clearly marked on-site maps and with barricades.
De-establishment Measures During Suspension
- Working areas will remain barricaded with safety netting.
- All plant and machinery will be removed from site.
- Access roads will be graded and compacted.
- All stockpiled material will be barricaded.
- The site camp will be tidied and locked to prevent public access.
We kindly request that all park users respect these restrictions to ensure safety and prevent damage to the works in progress.
