Welgemoed Primary School: Staying Safe During Peak Traffic Hours

Traffic along Sluysken Street is particularly busy during school drop-off and collection times, especially between Kommissaris Street and Nederburgh/Bakker Street. With school traffic, passing motorists and deliveries to the nearby Pick n Pay, we ask drivers to be patient and take extra care around Welgemoed Primary School. As there is currently no scholar patrol, please remain alert and give children sufficient time to cross the road safely.

With children crossing the road and moving between parked vehicles, WCID would like to remind parents, residents and other road users of a few important road safety considerations:

  • Reduce your speed when approaching the school and remain alert for children crossing the road.
  • Allow extra time for school drop-off and collection, particularly during peak periods.
  • Use designated drop-off areas responsibly and avoid double-parking, obstructing traffic or stopping where visibility is restricted.
  • Be patient and considerate towards other motorists, pedestrians and parents assisting children.
  • Take particular care near the school gates, where children may cross unexpectedly or move between stationary vehicles.

A little extra patience and consideration from everyone using the road can help make these busy periods safer and easier for all.
