The City of Cape Town is inviting public comment on proposed amendments to the Traffic By-Law. These amendments focus on the impoundment of vehicles and related penalties, particularly affecting public transport vehicles.
The City continues to see widespread disregard for road safety laws. These amendments aim to strengthen enforcement, improve compliance, and create safer roads for all. The by-law was first amended in 2019 to allow for impoundments and gazetted in 2022. The current draft aims to further improve clarity for both road users and enforcement staff, with the goal of enhancing road safety and encouraging responsible road behavior.
Public Participation Process:
- Comment period: 19 September – 19 October 2025
- Submit input by email: traffic.bylaw@capetown.gov.za
The Welgemoed CID encourages residents to take part in the process and share input that highlights traffic challenges in our own area, particularly the increased traffic volumes and usage concerns along Jip de Jager Drive.
